A group of five families in Barcelona initiated a bike procession to transport their children to school, and now the assembly has expanded to hundreds of individuals. The original cluster commenced cycling to advocate for designated bike paths and more secure, calmer roads, attracting an increasing number of families to join their cycling ranks on a weekly basis.
Known as the “Bicibus” or Bike Bus, this assembly is more akin to a convoy, where students and their guardians hop on their bikes and ride together towards the school. With three designated stops en route, families can merge with other cyclists, whether they choose to ride scooters, bikes, or even rollerblades.
The aim of the Bicibus is to attract the City Council’s attention towards creating bike lanes that are school-friendly and situated away from the busy main roads in the vicinity.
There’s something extraordinary taking place in Barcelona. It all started when a few parents orchestrated a school bike trek for just five kids last month. Now entire communities are coming together. They refer to it as Bicibús – the Bike Bus. pic.twitter.com/qIxsQEervG

Every Friday, the Bicibus can be witnessed with a multitude of cyclists and skaters. The journey spans a total of 25 minutes, but as the group expanded, it acquired its own police escort.
The parents are anticipating a rise in the number of Barcelona residents choosing to commute via bicycles, promising a healthier, quieter, and enhanced living environment for all.
