Young Dillon Helbig, an 8-year-old budding writer, has managed to create a long list of eager readers for one of his initial creations. Despite the fact that the book has not been officially published, Dillon took the initiative to discreetly place his hand-crafted 81-page holiday-themed masterpiece on the shelves of his community library.
Inserted amidst other picture books at the Ada Community Library’s Hazel Branch in Boise, Idaho was Dillon’s book entitled “The Adventures of Dillon Helbig’s Crismis.” Initially going unnoticed, Dillon revealed his adorable deed to his mother who then reached out to the library staff.
Expecting to just collect her son’s creation before it was discarded, Dillon’s mother was surprised to find out that the library team had appreciated the story and decided to include it in their collection. His narrative was assigned a barcode and labels, quickly gaining popularity and becoming one of the most sought-after titles in the library’s history.
In response to the book’s acclaim, the library introduced an award named the “Whoodini Award for Best Young Novelist” in Dillon’s honor.
As Dillon’s mother explores options to release an electronic version of his book for interested readers nationwide, Dillon is currently engrossed in writing his next tale highlighting a “closet that enjoys devouring jackets.”
