During the initial stages of the health crisis, Brian Arya, one of the proprietors of the Lincoln Tunnel Motel in North Bergen, NJ, recognized the escalating demand for economical lodging. Even though Brian had aspirations in acting and never envisioned managing his family’s motel, circumstances changed when his father bestowed him with a share of ownership.
Upon the commencement of the COVID-19 outbreak, the motel witnessed a surge in residents seeking refuge due to financial constraints in maintaining their existing accommodations. Brian leveraged TikTok to gain popularity for the motel through his satirical video series titled “Motel Hell.” His substantial online following sparked an innovative initiative.
Arya introduced a program called “Free Room for You” aimed at aiding those without suitable housing. This act of kindness set off a chain reaction of goodwill.
A generous outpouring of support ensued from his TikTok community. Individuals contributed essential items, financial aid, and fulfilled the motel’s needs list on Amazon for its guests.
Presently, Arya approximates that he has provided complimentary rooms to around 50-60 individuals since the inception of the program. He describes the long-staying guests as a quasi-family.
“There is undeniably a sense of community here,” Arya shared with CBS. “You simply need to engage with people, learn their stories. I am fortunate to have this opportunity.”
As long as the health crisis persists, the motel will persist in assisting those in distress. Echoing their motto, “We will always keep a light shining at the end of the tunnel for you.”
