Union’s Response to Outfit Controversy During Ongoing Strike for Fair Contracts
The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) acknowledges recent concerns and debates surrounding Megan Fox’s costume choice for Halloween. In the midst of continuous negotiations and strikes, this incident has raised questions about how influential figures in the entertainment industry are perceived by the public and the responsibilities they hold.
The sentiments voiced by Walter strike a chord with many SAG-AFTRA members who have been actively engaged in a strike since July. This strike is a reaction to the demands of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and revolves around issues related to fair compensation for actors in light of the rise of streaming platforms and the increased use of AI in Hollywood productions.
SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher, a staunch advocate for fair working conditions for actors, has expressed surprise and disappointment over the stalled negotiations with prominent studio heads, including David Zaslav of Warner Bros. Discovery, Ted Sarandos of Netflix, Donna Langley of NBCUniversal, and Bob Iger of Disney. Talks with the AMPTP have been temporarily suspended, further fueling the determination of the striking members.
Lisa Ann Walter criticizes Megan Fox for donning a ‘Kill Bill’ character outfit and referencing SAG-AFTRA on Instagram during the strike:
“What a maverick. Keep posing for superficial pursuits, attractive lady. Meanwhile, we’ll be toiling 10 hours a day – without compensation – to secure equitable standard contract earnings… pic.com/rIepK2NRoJ

The discussion surrounding Megan Fox’s costume selection underscores the ongoing tensions between SAG-AFTRA members and the AMPTP. The union has issued directives to ensure that members do not inadvertently breach strike regulations, especially in relation to Halloween outfits. Actors are advised to portray characters from non-struck content to prevent potential conflicts. Nevertheless, sharing costume pictures inspired by struck content on social media platforms is discouraged.
Actress Paige McGarvin has also voiced her apprehensions, mentioning that using a significant platform to undermine the union’s endeavors can weaken their bargaining leverage with the AMPTP and exacerbate divisions among members.
SAG-AFTRA remains committed to negotiating fair contracts for its members and addressing the challenges posed by the evolving entertainment landscape. The strike, which was initiated two months after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, revolves around securing better compensation in the digital era and ensuring that actors receive due recognition for their contributions, particularly with the growing integration of AI in productions.
The union stresses solidarity among its members during these challenging times and underscores the significance of adhering to strike regulations and presenting a united front. As discussions with the AMPTP progress, SAG-AFTRA is resolute in its pursuit of a just agreement for its members, striving tirelessly to safeguard their interests and ensure a thriving future for the entertainment sector.
